Before you start

Make sure you have a good quality steel tape measure and pen and paper, so you can write down your measurements before you forget them. It’s a good idea to take the measurements more than once just to be sure they’re accurate. You could also take some clear photos of your window/s and send them with the measurements.

Standard windows

Standard windows are the easiest to measure. Do make sure to mention if you’re going for café style shutters however because for this product, you need to give the height up to the horizontal divide in your window, rather than its full height. It’s also important to consider whether you want your shutters mounted on the inside or outside of your window.

  • Start by measuring the width of your window from the outside of the frame on the left, all the way to the outside of the frame on the right
  • Then measure the height from the sill to the ceiling

Bay windows

Bay windows are a bit tricky to navigate but by taking a bit of extra time with them, you can still get an accurate measure.

  • Start from the left side, outer edge of the window frame. Measure from this point to the centre of the angle (this is usually marked on the window sill with a cut line).
  • Then measure from the centre point of the angle to the next angle or cut line. Repeat this process for all parts of the window until you reach the outer edge of the right hand frame. The combined length of your sections is the overall width.
  • For the height, simply measure from the sill to the ceiling.

Shaped windows

Windows come in all different shapes and sizes nowadays but regardless of whether they’re apex, circular, arched or triangular, you can still measure them for shutters.

  • Measure the widest part of the window from the outside of the frame on the left to the outside of the frame on the right. If you have a circular window, this is the only dimension that’s required.
  • For the height, you will need to identify the tallest overall dimension from the sill to the ceiling.
