A burst of Spring

Garden with wheelbarrow and spade

Finally after a long wet winter the clocks have changed and British Summer Time has started. With the clocks moving forward the light evenings are upon once more, bringing with them the delights of spring, from bluebells to daffodils and baby lambs to nesting birds.

Such welcoming signs I’m sure make many of us feel a bit happier and put a spring in our step. As well as the lighter evenings, the weather has finally turned warmer and many of us can now start working in our gardens preparing them for the spring and summer months ahead.

Maybe you enjoy planting your favourite bedding plants in tubs and window boxes to add colour to your garden and patio or maybe vegetable growing is more your thing and so preparing your vegetable patch and sowing your seeds will be top of your agenda right now.

Welcoming nature into our gardens can also be very enjoyable especially at this time of year, when many of our garden birds are courting and making nests. If you would like to encourage more birds into your garden you can find some top tips on how to entice them in by giving them the right kind of foods and ensuring they have the correct habitat on the RSPB website.

grandmother and child gardening

Hopefully we will all enjoy another warm summer and will be able to share it with friends and family. A summertime of bar-b-q’s and garden parties, enjoying a glass of our favourite tipple and soaking up the last of the evening’s rays on our patios and decking’s will definitely not go amiss. You may even have found your patio furniture already in the depths of your shed or garage and placed it in anticipation for the summer months ahead.

Of course even on wet days we can still enjoy our gardens through our windows, no matter what the weather. You may even be considering adding shutters to your windows and with the added benefit of being able to control heat and light, plantation shutters will help keep your rooms warm and airy, giving your home a spring lift.

Good luck with your garden preparation, let’s hope that this spring’s weather will give us all something lovely to talk about!
