Tips for autumnal home flower decorations

The seasons are changing but that’s no reason for you not to still enjoy colourful vases of fresh flowers in your home. The autumn season is full of vibrant colours, from red berries and rich dark reds to rustic browns and zesty oranges, there’s plenty of choice to keep your home in full colour.

If you’re not sure where to start and are looking for inspiration, our tips below will soon have your house full of fresh seasonal plants, so you can enjoy autumn before the festive season is upon us in earnest!

Autumn Berries
Your garden will be alive with autumnal berries which can be used to create wonderful arrangements for your vases. Rose hips, hawthorn and rowan berries are all in plentiful supply at the moment. Cut sprays of each and add to a vase for a classic elongated look. You can also add evergreen leaves such as fir, holly and ivy for a fuller effect.

Vibrant reds and oranges

The classic colours of autumn are often referred to as warming, and when used in bouquets in full colour, they can really be quite striking. The Physocarpus ‘Diable d’Or’ also commonly known as the Ninebark has lovely deep purple red leaves, mixed with the blood flower and a few sprigs of the red berries mentioned above, you’ll make a lovely, warm, colourful arrangement. To really make your creation stand out, place your vase against your plain white window shutters.

Harvest Season

For those of you who like to bring nature into your home why not use seasonal vegetables and crops to create a harvest vase. If your pumpkins are ready why not carve one out and use the shell as the vase and fill with ears of corn, pine cones, and spiky beech nut branches to add contrast to the arrangement. Flowers such as dahlia’s and chrysanthemums should also be in full bloom so why not add some of these into the mix.
Falling Leaves

If you’re feeling creative and artistic you could always make your own autumn wreath using any of the wonderful fallen leaves that are in your garden. Hopefully you’ll have an array of amazing colours that you can use to create a truly stunning wreath.
