5 great reasons to get window shutters

If you’re debating whether or not window shutters are right for your home, we’ve put together a list of five reasons we’re confident you will absolutely love about this addition to your home.

They offer near blackout

According to the Sleep Council, one of the most important factors which determines whether or not you’ll have a good night’s sleep is how dark your bedroom is. Because the sleep-inducing hormone, melatonin is so light-sensitive, the organisation does in fact advise that we need complete darkness in order to get good quality sleep. To find out more read their 7 practical steps information sheet by following the link below:

One of the greatest benefits of window shutters is that they offer almost complete blackout – something which is difficult to achieve with curtains or blinds.

You can adjust the brightness

The louvres on your window shutters are easily adjustable which means that you can let in as much or as little light as you need during the day. If it’s a bright, sunny day for example, you can adjust the louvres to let natural light in but you don’t have to worry about the sun making the room too hot or struggling to try and see your computer or television screen.

An added benefit of shutters is that while letting in sufficient light, they also offer complete privacy so you don’t have to worry about the neighbours or passers-by seeing into your home.

They reduce outdoor noise pollution

Further advice from the Sleep Council states that a nice quiet bedroom is another key aspect of getting a great night’s sleep. If you live in an area where cars or people often pass by, shutters are a great way of reducing outdoor noise pollution. This is also helpful if you work from home or your evening relaxation time is often interrupted by traffic, people or music coming from a nearby venue.

If you’re worried about noise travelling inside your house, solid bi-fold doors help to create an extra barrier between rooms. Say for example you’re downstairs watching television in the evening and you have children sleeping upstairs, simply close the doors and you don’t have to worry about waking anyone up.

They’re easy to keep clean

How often do you give your window dressings a good clean? If you have curtains or blinds, chances are it’s hardly ever or even never. In order to clean curtains properly, you would have to take them down and send them to the dry cleaner. Although you can leave blinds as they are, their flimsy material makes it a very fiddly job to clean in between each individual slat.

Shutters on the other hand are incredibly easy to wipe clean and keep dust-free. This means that you don’t have to worry about dirt, pet hair and cooking smells lingering around the house.

They’re a great security device

When we think about securing our homes, we usually imagine burglar alarms, fences, getting a big dog or maybe even CCTV. Did you know however that shutters are in fact a fantastic way to improve the security of your home?

If someone smashes a window in your home, it’s pretty easy for them to push back a curtain or a blind. Window shutters on the other hand aren’t such an easy feat and burglars know this which means that they can be a great deterrent.
